Montgomery County Cultural Foundation

In 1975, just two years after the Montgomery County Rotary Jail housed its last inmate, a group of citizens inspired by local benefactor Max Tannenbaum formed an organization to save and honor the abandoned structure. For 38 years now, the nonprofit Montgomery County Cultural Foundation has worked not only to preserve and maintain the jail and sheriff's residence as a museum, but also to foster the cultural awareness of local citizens and visitors.

Each year, along with touring the rotating cell blocks, guests can view themed exhibits of our collection of Midwestern costumes, decorative art, textiles, rugs, fossils, anthropological remains, tools and photographs, all mostly from the 19th century. We also sponsor events such as art camps and musical concerts designed to broaden horizons.

A group of dedicated volunteers supplement the efforts of our small staff, serving as board members, docents and event planners. Please join us by becoming a volunteer or member.
