Join Mr. Fred Schaefer as he dissects the intriguing medical and surgical interventions that could have been employed, and historically were available, to rescue the lives of inmates following wounds sustained at the Rotary Jail. The 30-ton rotating mechanism was known to cause serious and life-threatening injuries to inmates who found themselves in lock-up, and with few (if any) safeguards in place to protect them from the rotating turnstile. This is an engaging presentation providing information, and a general re-enactment of a surgical procedure.


Fred Schaefer is a graduate of IvyTech Community College, who holds certifications from IUPUI. He has 51 years of experience in the operating room, currently with OrthoIndy as the First Assistant Manager.
